Bonne Terrasse Beach

1. Bonne Terrasse Beach, Ramatuelle

Location
Pampelonne

Bonne Terrasse beach is a sheltered little bay which in olden times provided safe harbour for the local fishing boats. Today, the beach is surrounded by residential properties and well-known restaurants.

Sunbeds and umbrellas are available to hire and facilities are excellent with public toilets, showers and a first aid station with lifeguards on duty. Dogs are allowed on the beach but they must be kept on a lead at all times.

There is a small parking area close to the beach.

Plage de la Bouillabaisse, Saint Tropez

2. Bouillabaisse Beach

Location
Saint Tropez

La Bouillabaisse is a more low-key option to the swanky beach clubs on Pampelonne beach and is situated closer to the town of Saint Tropez.

Located just to the west of Saint Tropez village, the clean water laps soft golden sand. There are a few buildings backing the beach built in a charming Provençal style and some restaurants with sun loungers and umbrellas for rent.

Two small free parking lots are close by.

white sand and a boat on canoubiers beach

3. Canoubiers Beach

Location
Pampelonne

This beach is situated around the coastline from Plage des Graniers, and sits close to the main road of Route des Salins, so access from St-Tropez town is fairly easy.

This sandy beach is home to a sailing school plus several other marine and yachting services. The sheltered bay means that the sea is often calm here and good for paddling. It's considered as the local's favourite, thanks to its easy access and shaded areas offered by the pine trees that line the back of the sand area. There are showers, toilets and a lifeguard on duty during the summer period.

This beach was made famous by the French television series "Sous le Soleil".

Pampelonne Beach, Saint Tropez

4. Pampelonne Beach

Location
Pampelonne

Pampelonne Beach is the beach most people associate with Saint-Tropez. This is where you will find the A-listers, the famous beach clubs, and the super yachts resting in the bay.

The busiest and longest beach in Saint-Tropez, set in a beautiful sheltered bay. It stretches over 5km in length, with white sands and sparkling turquoise seas. The beach is spilt between public areas where you can lay down your towel and belongings, to a range of beach clubs where you can hire sun loungers and parasols, and dine with some extravagance.

In reality this beach belongs to the closest village of Ramatuelle rather than to Saint-Tropez itself, which is around 6km away. During the summer months of July and August, the beach can become busy and crowded. Your beach towel may overlap that of your neighbour's but if you are prepared to walk, you should be able to find a more spacious plot.

If you prefer your beach time to be a bit more tranquil then consider visiting in low season, towards the end of September when the sun is still warming every inch of body and soul, when the beach chairs are half occupied, and you can enjoy this long white sandy beach at its best.

Facilities are excellent, with public toilets, showers and three first aid stations with life guards on duty from mid-June to mid-September.

A bus service runs from central Saint-Tropez (St-Tropez to Ramatuelle), it takes 15 minutes. Parking (for a fee) is available in one of the six access points.

Plage des Salins beach

5. Salins Beach

Location
Pampelonne

Located north of the infamous stretch known as Pampelonne beach and about 7km from the town of Saint-Tropez, Plage des Salins is a little slice of wilderness.

A shingle and shell covered beach, this is not the pristine combed beaches that we expect of St-Tropez, but rather a small rugged cove offering up natural delights with a touch of luxury from the local (and only) beach club.

plage des graniers from the citadel

6. Graniers Beach

Location
Saint Tropez

Plage des Graniers is a beautiful, small sandy bay surrounded by greenery and a few Provençal villas.

Plage des Graniers is located underneath the citadel and is in close proximity from anywhere in the city (a five min walk from the heart of Saint-Tropez). It's a relatively small beach that's very busy during summer time.

This is a quiet and free option with sunbeds and umbrellas available for hire.

Escalet Beach

7. L'Escalet Beach, Ramatuelle

Location
Ramatuelle

The coastline between Cape Taillat and Cape Camarat is a succession of pretty little beaches, coves and rocky inlets, with translucent waters over the polished rocks or golden sands.

Escalet beach is a small half-sand, the half-pebble beach which, despite its remoteness, has all the required facilities such as toilets, showers and a lifeguard. There are also a couple of snack bars where you can buy food and drinks, but there is very little after that, so make sure you have a backpack filled with picnic treats.

There is paid parking close by or free parking spots along the road.

Plage de la Ponche, Saint Tropez

8. La Ponche Beach

Location
Saint Tropez

Plage de la Ponche and its neighbour Plage de la Fontanette are two lovely beaches which you can access directly from the heart of the village.

Pointless taking a swimsuit, these small beaches are not visited by swimmers but mainly by readers and photographers. The bay sits close to yacht entry to the port so you certainly don't want to be swimming out too far, best to stick to paddling and cooling your feet down on a hot day.

It's also the starting point for hiking the coastal path, the Sentier Littoral.
