Golf Blue Green l'Esterel, Saint Raphael

2. Blue Green l'Esterel Golf Course, Saint Raphael

The golf course is situated near the famous Riviera resort of Saint Raphael on the outskirts of Cap Esterel.

The natural undulation of the terrain and long, narrow fairways make this a fairly challenging course. Each hole looks out onto magnificent views either of the Bay d'Agay or the foothills of the Esterel mountain range.

The club is open year round and offers a warm welcome to all levels of player, as well as excellent facilities including driving range, chipping area, putting green and a clubhouse with pro shop, restaurant and bar.

3. Valcros Hyeres Golf Course, Bormes-les-Mimosas

Overlooking the Provençal village of Londe and set into the foothills of the Maures mountains, the view from this course opens onto the Mediterranean Sea and Golden Islands.

Set out on 50 hectares, Valcros is not a long course, so a big tee shot would generally mean a short iron second, to the green. But the course is laden with bunkers and there is a fair amount of water, so the ambitious player needs to be careful. It is a course that is considered challenging enough for a low handicapper but enjoyable for a novice too.

The course is well-equipped with driving range, putting green, pro shop, bar, restaurant and locker rooms. You can book lessons with one of the teaching pros, if you wish.

The oldest golf course in the Var department, created in 1895 by Lord Ashcomb, the Valescure Golf Club is surrounded by Pines. With a length of 5005 meters for a Par 68, this course offers several relatively short holes, which at first may make it look easy to negotiate. The impression is misleading because, in fact, the narrow fairways, difficult roughs, many water hazards and rather small greens are all elements that require continuous reflection and wisdom in the choice of clubs.
