Keeping fit in Saint Tropez

There's no better place to look fit and beautiful than in the glamorous village of Saint Tropez. Luckily there are plenty of options if you want to keep your fitness up while on holiday in this amazing part of the world.

Saint Tropez has some brilliant facilities and public spaces for keeping fit, so there’s no excuse to stop your exercise regime, and there are definitely worse places to burn some calories. Plus, you can always justify sinking your teeth into another piece of flaky, custardy, delicious Tarte Tropezienne from the local bakery after your workout.

Hit the trails

The trails of the Sentier du Littoral are perfect for stretching your legs. This is a stunning coastal walk that you’d be mad to miss, so forget the treadmill and get out to walk along the wild edges and soft sandy beaches of the Gulf of Saint Tropez. It’s seven miles from Saint Tropez to the famous Pampellonne Beach and it can be a bit rocky at times so don’t forget plenty of water, sunscreen and good walking shoes.

Get to the beach

Kiteboarding lessons at Pampellonne Beach, the perfect workout for your core. The prevalent south-westerly wind makes this 4km beach ideal for kitesurfing, and there are several operators offering lessons.

Time for tennis

The nearby beach resort town of Sainte Maxime has two tennis courts open for public use. The Tennis Club de la Croisette is open year-round, with 4 Greenset courts and two synthetic clay courts, while the Le Tennis Club de la Madrague is only open in July and August, with four courts offering stunning views over the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. There are other tennis courts closer to the town of St Tropez as well as the options for tennis coaching from some ex-professional players and tennis experts. No better place to ace that serve!

A round of golf

Leave the golf cart behind and walk around the splendid grounds of Gassin Golf Club, enjoying the spectacular view and getting some exercise. This world-class golf course was designed by Thierry Sprecher, a highly-qualified golf course architect and Gery Watine, former French number one. All of this is only 5 minutes away from Pampelonne beach.

On two wheels

Cycling (on road) - there’s a cycle path along the coast towards Cannes and beyond that we’ve written about in detail in our Cycling Guide, but there’s also a great 95km road biking loop starting at Cogolin and ending in Saint Tropez, taking in 11th century castles, villages, vineyards and beaches.

Mountain-biking - the hills and coast around St Tropez abound in mountain-biking opportunities. You might want to explore the multitude of tracks in the wild Maures, ride the 218kms of tracks in the Drailles et Bancaus du Verdon mountain bike area, or ride the five special trails around the Hyeres and even across the water on the Isle de Porquerolle.
