It's not hard to see why the small port town of Saint Tropez is popular with photographers, with the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean, the sleek superyachts in the harbour and the narrow cobbled lanes of the old town, not to mention the long stretches of silky white sand beach.

According to the website 'sightsmap' the town of Saint Tropez ranks 174th in the world for the most photographed cities and towns. Coming in 3rd on the French Riviera just behind Nice in 2nd place and Monte-Carlo in poll position, Saint Tropez offers the discerning photographer a multitude of artistic offerings.

Place des Lices, Saint Tropez

Unsurprisingly, the Place des Lices comes out on top as the photographed area of the town. Well-known for its regular Provencal-style markets and traditional boules tournaments, you will most likely find the local old boys enjoying a glass of pastis in between matches at one of the local cafes.

Les Voiles de St Tropez

The annual Voiles de Saint Tropez event follows as the second most photographed attraction in town, which is fairly impressive as it only takes place for nine days each year. Drawing thousands of participants as well as spectators, this beautifully visual event really captures the essence of Saint Tropez. Sleek and shiny yachts with masts and sails reaching high into the heavens and smart crews ready to battle for supremacy in the Gulf of Saint Tropez.

Rounding off the top ten, the Citadelle de St Tropez is popular, not only for the 17th-century fortress that houses the maritime museum, but also as it offers panoramic views of the region.
