featured in News & reviews Author Pam Williamson, Saint-Tropez Editor Updated

For the last few days, the residents of Saint Tropez have donned their uniforms to become soldiers and sailors. The town vibrates with the noise of blunderbusses and muskets in memory of the past.

Les Bravades is a very long standing traditional festival which brings the town together to celebrate the Patron Saint of Saint Tropez. It also celebrates the formation of the army created in the mid 16th century. With plenty of traditional music, dancing, food and drinking plus stalls and parades in the street, Saint Tropez has been dressed in white and red in recent days.

This event reminds everyone that the inhabitants of Saint Tropez were always ready to take up the arms to defend themselves against Barbarians and those who threatened the peace and prosperity of their home.

The festivities end today with the final mass of thanksgiving followed by the traditional picnic. This week we have seen the ‘real’ Saint Tropez behind the glitz, this is the most culturally important festival in Saint Tropez and is a huge local favourite.
