Saint Tropez to Maures Corniche Loop

A fairly long cycle loop that takes you through the countryside & along the coast

This loop starts at Cogolin and ends in Saint Tropez, taking in 11th century castles, villages, vineyards and beaches along the way. there are several cols to cross so try not to do this in the heat of the day!

You can also reverse the route for something a little different, however the temptations of Pampelonne beach are probably best left until near the end of your bike ride. This ride offer sumptuous views of the Mediterranean whilst travelling along a beautiful ridge road.

Who should go

This is a route for intermediate to advanced cyclists. There are several cols to pass over and if you are not used to cycling in the heat of the French Riviera then it will certainly be a challenge.

What to bring

As always when you are cycling in the French Riviera you should ensure that you have enough water, energy food and sun cream!

Where to lunch

This is a good half day cycle. If you start early in the morning then you can be at the beach clubs of Pampelonne beach for lunch time!

Directions

Leave Cogolin along the N98 heading west, pass Tremouriès Castle. After the 11th century Môle Castle, turn left on to the D27 and climb the Canadel Col (267m). Continue to climb on your right, pass Barral Col (372m),continue right along the ridge. At Pierre d'Avenon, start the long descent over the Landon Cols (380m).

At the entrance to Oin de Bormes, turn left and join the D559 at La Ravelle towards Le Lavandou. Pass through Saint-Clair, La Fossette, Cavalière and Pramousquier. Then, climb up towards Le Canadel and Le Rayol to the Dattier viewpoint. In Cavalaire, continue along the beach, before climbing among the vineyards of Croix-Valmer. In the village, turn right on to the 1393 and continue to the Col of the Baie de Cavalaire before descending to the Ramatuelle plain.

After the cooperative winery, continue right along the D93, parallel to Pampelonne beach. After Sainte-Anne castle, take the communal path on the right and pass the Chapel to enter Saint-Tropez. Make your way to the Foux crossroads along the D98. Option of a 3.5 km round trip to Port-Grimaud. Pass through the town and follow the N98 to Cogolin.
